How to Make Awesome Avocado and Tomato Sandwiches
Are you trying to find a quick and super healthy meal for yourself or kids that they won’t turn down?
Have you ever tried avocado and tomato combined? If not, you’ve got to, it’s delicious!!
Honestly, I’m not a big avocado fan. *Gasp* I know, I know, there’s all these health benefits from avocados, and they’re known for being a healthy fat. I know they’re good for me, and for you. Unfortunately, unlike my two little girls, I don’t enjoy eating avocados all by themselves. But, yes, my 2 year old and my 5 year old will split one plain, no problem. I guess that’s what happens when it’s the second or third food I give them as babies!
Tomatoes, on the other hand, we know these are good for us, as well. And, when you combine them with the avocado they make this wonderful taste that makes you wonder how you ever lived without it before!
But, to get back to what you came here for: a fast and super healthy meal; well it’s more like a sandwich. But hey, who doesn’t like sandwiches?
There are also, at least, two different ways to make avocado and tomato sandwiches. Well, really, there’s more, but the two ways below are the best ways to make them. They are mother and child approved!
The First Way
The first way to make this sandwich, and the first way I ever made this sandwich, is by toasting the bread first.
Once the bread is toasted, then you put the avocado on both slices of bread. Slice up the tomatoes and add to one side of the bread. Add some garlic powder, or garlic and sea salt, to both sides.
Place the piece of toast with just the avocado on top of the slice with tomatoes. Then you’re done and you can enjoy your sandwich!
See, super simple! You can even prepare the avocado to be placed on the bread, and slice up the tomatoes, while the bread is toasting. So, this way is only as long as toasting a few slices of bread!
The Second Way
The other way that I make avocado tomato sandwiches, and I just recently started doing it, is to make it as you would a grilled cheese sandwich. This way is perfect for someone who recently switched to a vegan diet; you get to go through the motions of making a grilled cheese, but instead end up with a much healthy (and vegan) sandwich!!
For this way, spread or place avocado on both sides of the bread. Add sliced tomatoes to one side. Then add garlic powder, or garlic and sea salt, to both sides. Place the slice of bread without tomatoes on top of the slice with tomatoes.
Then place on a frying pan on medium heat.
Every couple minutes you can go ahead and flip the sandwich. Be careful though, it can fall apart easily, I usually put my a finger or two on the top of the sandwich when flipping it to keep it together. (Don’t burn yourself, though.) You can tell that it’s done when both sides of the bread are darker, or even a golden color, like above.
When it’s done, let cool a minute or so, then Enjoy!!
Alright, so when I made these sandwiches, I did make fresh bread for them. But, any kind of bread will work! The recipe I almost always use when making regular fresh bread is Vegan Crazy Dough. I bake the bread at 400℉ for half an hour.
And, for the avocado, you can slice it to put it on the bread, or puree it with a nutribullet. I like to puree it with a little water then freeze in an ice cube tray. This way, I can buy the avocados in bulk when they’re cheaper and they’ll last longer. I don’t know where you live, but where I live avocados are a dollar a piece right now. A month or so ago I was able to get them for about $3 for a bag of 4 or 5, so it’s worth it for me to buy in bulk and freeze!
