Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re interested in teaching your little ones the alphabet, with more than the use of snacks, you NEED to check out Prep Through Play: Letters!! Your little one will have tons of fun and conquer learning the entire alphabet in 5 weeks through playing games!

Snacks that Start with C

For this week, we focused on the letter C. This was another easy letter to focus on.

There’s quite a few fruits and veggies that start with the letter C. Such as carrots, celery and cantaloupe.

I even included a bonus healthy snack for this week with chickpeas. So good that my older daughter keeps asking for more!

And, just like last week, there were some hits and some misses. If you missed last week, you can catch up here for the letter B.

Actually, the first snack we tried was a miss; for all of us. I have never really liked raw veggies; I was never made to eat them as a kid. But, I keep trying them as an adult, even though I still can’t seem to enjoy them, unless they’re in a smoothie!

Carrots and Celery with Peanut Butter

For our first snack this week, we all tried raw baby carrots and celery.

I even added peanut butter to the snack in hopes it would go over better.

Well, the peanut butter was the only thing that disappeared. Except maybe a bite or two from each veggie from my younger daughter.

I believe the key to eating these is consistency. So, we’ll have to keep trying these until we start to like them, someday. Maybe with some hummus next time. That is, if we can acquire a taste for hummus.

Carrot Celery Nutri Blast

We couldn’t let the carrots and celery go to waste; I can’t stand wasting food. I even feel bad throwing away banana peels. Once we get our own house we are getting a composter.

To avoid wasting these veggies, I made a smoothie. Yep, you heard me right, a smoothie with veggies. Technically, you could call it a nutri blast because I used my nutribullet.

This went over much smoother with my girls and myself than I thought it would. My older drank all of hers up, and felt special using her Frozen mug. My younger daughter doesn’t do so well with cups without tops yet, so I shared mine with her. Well, more like she shared with me. She kept asking for more she loved it so much!

Carrot Raisin Muffins

Tuesday morning I woke up and baked!

My girls and I have a thing for muffins. I made carrot muffins with raisins, and they were delicious. However, my older daughter thought differently and simply picked out the raisins to eat. At least myself and younger daughter enjoyed these!

This isn’t my personal recipe, but it’s easy enough to find a good healthy recipe for these. You could search for this with google, or even pinterest. And, like all muffins, they go great with coffee!

Clementines

Wednesday was a simple day.

Over the weekend I had bought a huge bag of cuties, or clementines. We had these for breakfast.

And, we had them everyday since then, at least until we ran out. Just make sure you peel all of the skin off, and what my older daughter calls the “hair”. If any bit of “hair” is left on these then she won’t eat them. Luckily, my younger daughter isn’t so picky. She loves the juice that comes out of these. That’s practically all she eats. This snack can become sticky pretty quickly. But other than that I don’t think you could have an easier snack.

Cucumber Sandwiches

Thursday we all tried something new; cucumber sandwiches. Well, kind of sandwiches; I left the top off of them. And when I think back on it my girls may have enjoyed them better with another layer of bread and spread. My older daughter didn’t quite like it. After trying a bite with everything on it, she picked the cucumbers off and just ate the bread with spread. My younger daughter did the complete opposite; she picked the cucumbers off to eat and threw the rest on the floor. I liked it. It was different than what I was used to. The smell and taste also reminded me of spring.

This cucumber sandwich is really simple to make. Just cut the crust off the bread, thinly slice a cucumber and create the vegan cream cheese spread and put it all together. For the spread I just used vegan cream cheese, a little brown sugar, and lemon juice from about a 5th of a lemon.

  Cantaloupe

Friday we had two snacks that started with a C, and this time not because the first one was a miss. The first snack was cantaloupe. Just plain, cut up cantaloupe.

It was sweet, and to be honest, we did snack on it a little each day all week. This was just the day that we had finished it off. The $2 I spent on it was well worth it.

Chickpea Cookies

The second snack we had on Friday didn’t have any fruits or veggies in it. And at first glance it may not even look healthy. But, it is. And the reason it is in with this week with the letter C is because they are chickpea cookies.

My daughters absolutely love these. They can’t even tell that chickpeas are in them. Those cookies were a great ending to C week.

Check out the full recipe here: Chickpea Chocolate Chip Cookies

Chocolate Chip Chickpea Cookies stacked on a white plate with a bite out of the top one, with melty chocolate.

Next week is going to be focused on the letter D. And as I have tried to come up with fruits and veggies starting with the letter D, I’m not having much luck. Dragonfruit maybe, however I have not seen any out here on the west coast in stores, yet. I may have to be a little more creative this next week. Please, let me know if you have any suggestions.

And to sum up this week with a list.
