Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re interested in teaching your little ones the alphabet, with more than the use of snacks, you NEED to check out Prep Through Play: Letters!! Your little one will have tons of fun and conquer learning the entire alphabet in 5 weeks through playing games!

Snacks that Start with P

This past week we focused on the letter P.

And, as we get closer and closer to moving; things start getting a little more hectic, making me glad that I chose simple snacks for this past week. All I had to do was remove the fruit’s skin and cut it up. My girls loved it, too! They didn’t even seem to notice that I didn’t bake anything for this weeks snacks.

One of the fruits, my girls absolutely loved and could not get enough of. I had to limit them to 2 to 3 a day, otherwise they’d be upset that there weren’t any for the next day. Keep reading to find out which fruit they love so much!

PAPAYA

On Monday we had papaya. NO ONE here likes papaya.

I’m glad I know that now, I wish I had known that before purchasing it; then I would’ve bought a watermelon instead, since it would’ve been cheaper. To look on the bright side; my older daughter did have fun squishing the seeds. And, my younger daughter may have had fun throwing hers on the floor. I’m not sure, though, because it was on the floor before I even saw her touching it. If you try papaya, I hope you like it.

But, it’ll be a long time til we try it again. That is, once we finish the papaya we have; maybe it’s an acquired taste.

PLUMS

On Tuesday we had plums, and we had them on Wednesday and Thursday and Friday.

My girls absolutely loved these things. I’m so glad that I bought a bag of like 20 of them. They have literally been eating 2 to 3 a day, I’ve had 1 day and they were so sweet no wonder why they like them so much.

I’m sure if I let them, they all would’ve been gone on Tuesday, no doubt about that! Especially, since my older daughter kept going into the fridge and grabbing one herself because she wanted more.

Peaches

On Wednesday we had peaches.

I’m not gonna lie, they were frozen then warmed and put on top of our ‘second breakfast’ (pancakes). That’s what my four year old calls our morning snack when it’s more than just a piece of fruit.

Nevertheless, my daughters, and myself, loved these, especially on our vegan pancakes! My older daughter didn’t even ask for syrup because the warmed peaches made it not necessary. My younger daughter even ate them before I had a chance to give her pancakes. So, even though I went the cheap way and used the peaches from my 5 pound bag of frozen fruit I get for my smoothies; my daughters still loved them!

Pears

On Thursday we had pears.

Nothing too fancy, I simply removed the skin and gave them to my girls. I tried one and I’m not sure if it was ripe or what was wrong with it, but it wasn’t as good as it should have been. My younger daughter must have realized too, she took 2 or 3 bites then threw it across the room. My older daughter, however, still liked them, she even asked me for mine so she could finish it.

If they were ripe then we all would’ve enjoyed them, maybe they’ll ripen in the next day or so.

Pineapple (ice cream?)

On Friday we had pineapple.

Actually, Friday was a pineapple day!!!

We had plain pineapple, pineapple coconut smoothie (which ended up like soft ice cream), and pineapple coconut rice…Disney’s Moana was added to Netflix this past week. Have you seen it yet? Luckily, it’s pretty good. It’s been played about 20 times in my home in the past week. My older daughter is now obsessed with anything coconut and tries to dance like they do in the movie. My 17 month old will even sit through the whole movie. I don’t know if that’s good or bad. But, she loves it. My girls and myself also loved all the food I made this day, as well.
