Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re interested in teaching your little ones the alphabet, with more than the use of snacks, you NEED to check out Prep Through Play: Letters!! Your little one will have tons of fun and conquer learning the entire alphabet in 5 weeks through playing games!

Snacks that Start with Q

We’re starting to get to the end here, and to some more difficult letters of the alphabet as far as finding snacks for them goes. So, if you have any suggestions for snacks for the rest of the alphabet, I would certainly appreciate the help.

Quinoa mini blondies

On Monday I made quinoa mini blondies!

They were soooo good!

My older daughter would completely agree with this. My younger daughter, however, just ate the chocolate chips out of these. I was going to make them in a pan, you know, how they should be made, but we were moving this week and that pan was already packed. So, I grabbed my silicon baking cups and made mini muffin sized blondies instead.

These were perfect!! Perfect size for little ones, they couldn’t complain that I cut them too small. It was like they had a personal sized brownie muffin. They’re also perfect as a quick snack when packing and moving; they can be stored in a container in my purse and aren’t that messy.

Quick Mini Pizzas

On Tuesday I made quick mini pizzas for an afternoon snack.

My older daughter topped her own ‘pizza’ with the veggies she wanted. I used to have these all the time when I was younger; they’re simply english muffin pizzas.

Just pop them in the toaster, add sauce and toppings and put them in the microwave for a few seconds. We made ours vegan and used nutritional yeast in the place of cheese. They were still delicious though.

We all loved them. My younger daughter ate the veggies and sauce off of it first, then started on the english muffin. My older daughter ended up picking the veggies off and eating them separate, then she asked for jam on the english muffin instead. But, still ate the ‘pizza’ one she made.

QUICK BLUEBERRY MUFFINS

On Wednesday I made Quick Blueberry Muffins, aka blueberry muffins in a mug.

I told my older daughter about these at the beginning of the week. I probably should have waited til the day I made these to tell her; she kept asking me when I was going to make them. Both of my girls and myself loved these!

They’re simple, easy to make, and delicious. Plus, they don’t require an oven and have a quicker clean up than regular muffins; making them perfect for the week that we move. And my four year old got to use her Frozen mug that she loves!

Quinoa Breakfast Bowl

On Thursday I made a quinoa breakfast bowl for my daughters.

I also thought I could make a phone call while they ate it…that was a mistake. Have you ever tried to clean quinoa off the floor, or off a toddler? It’s not that easy.

My older daughter ate all of hers and loved it! It was pretty simple to make too; just some quinoa with blueberries, bananas, and some maple syrup per my older daughters request. I personally wasn’t a big fan of it, but I’m also used to eating quinoa in one specific dish and no other way. So, in the future, if I keep trying quinoa like this, I may end up liking it; just like with the quinoa blondies. But, for now, this will be a regular breakfast for my older daughter only.

Quesadillas (Vegan)

On Friday I made quesadillas, vegan quesadillas.

My girls were not fans of this, I thought it was delicious, though.

My older daughter kept telling me it’s not a quesadilla because it doesn’t have real cheese in it; I used nutritional yeast in the place of cheese. I also had all of the veggies chopped up and ready from the beginning of the week with the pizza’a, so that certainly helped make this snack possible.

After the veggies, nutritional yeast, and tortilla shells, the only other ingredient was organic salsa; which is what I believe made it so good. It may also be why my older daughter didn’t like it; she doesn’t like any type of sauce on food she eats. (Unless it’s pizza, but even then she’s not a fan of the sauce being on it.)

This past week for snacks was mostly successful, which is good because I didn’t have the time or energy to make extra snacks. We moved on Friday, so that was hectic!! Our new place, although still an apartment, is much better. First, the upstairs has our 2 bedrooms and a bathroom; the downstairs has the living room, another bathroom, a kitchen that can be blocked off by a gate, and a play room!! Plus, there’s a little playground about 10 feet from our front door!!! My older daughter is really excited!

But to sum up this past week’s snacks with a list,
