Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

Snacks that Start with U

This past week we focused on the letter U. This was a difficult letter, so I had to be a little creative this week. And, I’ll probably have to be this creative for the rest of the alphabet.

If you would like to catch up with the other letters of the alphabet that have been accomplished with this challenge so far, you can. Go here to check out letter T if you missed that, or head over to the A to Z series homepage!

Unbelievably Delicious Muffins

On Monday I made unbelievably delicious muffins.

I call them this, but I could’ve also called them ‘unable to stop eating these muffins’!

I made a double batch of healthy donut muffins and added apples to them because we all love apples. They didn’t last that long; I even tried freezing them.

They froze well, but that doesn’t mean they lasted any longer; they disappeared within a few days. There were three of us eating them, though. I didn’t eat them all by myself; my older daughter ate about the same amount as I did. My younger daughter didn’t have as many as us, she still enjoyed the ones she did have, though!

Unicorn Snack

On Tuesday I attempted to make a snack that looked like a unicorn.

How’d I do?

My older daughter didn’t think I did so well; after I took this picture she immediately took the banana ‘horn’ off and replaced it with an almond ‘horn’. My younger daughter didn’t care what it looked like, she did however enjoy the apple. Neither of them actually liked the almonds, though. And, more peanut butter was requested.

Under the Sea

On Wednesday we had an under the sea snack!

My girls loved this!!

Especially my older daughter, her face lit right up when she saw this. And, my younger daughter has been obsessed with blueberries this past week.

This was probably the second to best snack we had all week. Except, in my younger daughters opinion it was probably the best. This is a great snack to have for little ones, my older daughter had an easier time opening the banana when the top was split like a dolphins mouth. And, it’s super simple, just fruit!

Umbrella Snack

On Thursday we had an umbrella picture snack.

The bananas were the clouds, and they were the first to disappear, then the cashews and peanuts and oranges. Neither of my girls really liked the almonds or sunflower kernels. But, they did ask for more banana, cashews, and peanuts.

My younger daughter absolutely loves cashews and peanuts. I know some people don’t like to give 18 month olds nuts, but she chews them well; I can’t give my four year old nuts without giving some to my 18 month old.

Unicycle Snack

On Friday I attempted to make a unicycle snack…just like I attempted the unicorn snack.

It didn’t turn out quite as I expected it to. But, it did still taste good and my girls still ate it. Though, there was some more peanut butter added to it after I took the picture, per my older daughters request, again. They were also given more cashews to have with it. So, I guess it was still a success even if it doesn’t look that great!
