Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re interested in teaching your little ones the alphabet, with more than the use of snacks, you NEED to check out Prep Through Play: Letters!! Your little one will have tons of fun and conquer learning the entire alphabet in 5 weeks through playing games!

Snacks that Start with W

This past week we focused on the letter W.

And, I’m glad this past week was focused on W because there was a sale on watermelon last weekend!! It seems like every week there’s an amazing sale on a different type of fruit! A couple weeks ago I was able to get 18 oz of blueberries for $2.77, the next week 3 pounds of grapes for a little over $3, and this past week; a 16 pound watermelon for $4!! Even after this past week with snacks we still have a ton of watermelon left; all cut up and ready to eat!

If you would like to catch up with the other letters of the alphabet that have been accomplished with this challenge so far, you can. Go here to check out letter V if you missed that, or head over to the A to Z series homepage!

Watermelon

On Monday I cut up our watermelon; all 16 pounds of it!!

Luckily, it was delicious; myself and daughters had a bowl each of the delicious watermelon.

Well, they had their watermelon in bowls, I kind of just ate pieces of it while I was cutting it up. Which, in my opinion, is the best way to eat it; it saves time and I don’t have to hear my kids whine because I actually sat down to eat at the table. Oh, and just in case you were wondering; a 16 pound watermelon produces a lot of pieces of watermelon. We have been eating it all week long, and we still have to eat this next week too, probably all week!

Wedges (potato wedges)

On Tuesday I made wedges for a snack; potato wedges.

One thing we always keep in the house as a staple is potatoes, usually white, red, or sweet potatoes. They go great as a side to many different meals and make great snacks, as well.

There’s so many different things you can do with them, too. Last week I made fries with them, this week I made wedges with them. My older daughter loved these and so did I. My younger daughter tried them, but I don’t think she ate more than a bite or 2. She’ll eat salad with me now and gobble up broccoli, but doesn’t like potato wedges.

Watermelon Strawberry Drink

On Wednesday I hit another win for everyone; I made a watermelon strawberry drink!

It was so simple to make; I blended watermelon in my nutribullet til it was all liquid, then added about 5 frozen strawberries and some lemon juice and blended again.

The results were better than I had thought they would be. I loved it! So did both of my daughters! When I asked my 4 year what she thought of it; she gave it a thumbs up times 10, and she told me it was delicious. My younger daughter drank it, which is enough to tell that she likes something.

Whipped Coconut Cream

On Thursday I attempted to make whipped coconut cream.

As you can see from the picture; it didn’t turn out as it should’ve, or how I had hoped it would have. It was supposed to actually look like whipped cream, at least according to the recipe, and the picture that went with the recipe I followed. I still have some coconut cream left, so I will make another attempt at this; possibly with a different recipe.

What I had tried of it was too sweet. My older daughter absolutely loved it, though. I couldn’t really tell if my younger daughter liked it or not, she didn’t try it til we had our Friday snack.

I have been able to come up with a chocolate frosting made with coconut cream since this week in the challenge, find it with this cupcake recipe here: How to Make Amazing Vegan Cupcakes and Frosting

Waffles

On Friday I made waffles; awesome spiderman waffles!

My older daughter loves it whenever I make these. My younger daughter, on the other hand, isn’t always a fan. I even put some of the attempt at whipped coconut cream on it to see if that would help her like it more. She tried a couple pieces, but it was still difficult to tell if she liked it or not. My older daughter loved these even more with the whipped coconut cream. I enjoyed these, too, but with maple syrup, not the whipped coconut cream(if you can even call it whipped).
