Do you have trouble getting your children to eat healthy snacks throughout the day?

Or have trouble coming up with healthy snacks for your kids?

I used to!

With my girls being picky eaters, especially my 5 year old; I’ve realized how truly difficult it is to have my girls eat healthy snacks. That’s why this past year my two girls and I had an A to Z healthy snack challenge.

Over 26 weeks we came up with over 130 healthy snacks to eat. Some of the snacks immediately became favorite snacks that we all want to have on hand, while others weren’t so great. (It may have been a recipe I found, or the fact that it was the first time I tried making it. Don’t give up on the ones that didn’t work for us!)

Let’s have a look back on those 26 weeks, one letter at a time! With each letter, will come at least 5 healthy snacks. So, if you’re looking for snacks for your kids at home, or snacks to bring in to your childs school that starts with a specific letter; you’ve come to the right place!

If you’re interested in teaching your little ones the alphabet, with more than the use of snacks, you NEED to check out Prep Through Play: Letters!! Your little one will have tons of fun and conquer learning the entire alphabet in 5 weeks through playing games!

Snacks that Start with X

This past week we focused on the letter X. I had to be pretty creative this week, as you could probably guess. I also learned that some regular fruits have different names that start with the letter X. So, that certainly helped with coming up with snacks this past week. Keep reading to find out which fruits have a second name that start with the letter X!

Xigua Popsicles

On Monday I made xigua popsicles.

Well, I actually made them Sunday night so they could freeze overnight.

And, don’t worry, xigua is simply another name for watermelon. So, these popsicles were delicious!!

Both my daughters and myself loved them. My older daughter dipped hers in the smoothie she had, though. She said it tasted better that way. We only have two popsicle molds, so I only had a chance to try them. But, they tasted like how you would think a watermelon flavored popsicle should taste; it was sooo good! If you have a ton of xigua I absolutely recommend making these! They are super simple to make, honestly.

All you have to do is blend watermelon, put the liquid in a popsicle mold, and freeze; that’s it!

The Letter X

On Tuesday I made an X with carrots and my older daughter asked for peanut butter with it.

It was kind of a lazy day when it came to our snack. Sometimes we need a lazy day. Neither of my daughters liked the raw baby carrots; I didn’t either. I ended up cooking them, then they ate them, along with the peanut butter. (I never have trouble getting them to eat peanut butter, though. My older daughter asks for peanut butter on a spoon…all the time.) I guess my daughters are like me when it comes to raw veggies like carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower; they can’t be raw, need to be cooked.

Xylocarp Cupcakes

On Wednesday I made xylocarp cupcakes.

No reason to be intimidated by the word xylocarp, it’s simply what a fruit with a wood-like outer part is called. So, if it makes you feel better, you can call these coconut cupcakes.

These were absolutely delicious! Which was amazing because I didn’t follow a recipe; I simply measured ingredients before pouring them in and wrote down the amounts I used. I did the same thing with the frosting, which may be even better than the cupcakes. My recipe is also 100% vegan!!! I’ll post the recipe on my site at a later date and update this post when I do!

Xylophone Snack

On Thursday I made a xylophone snack out of produce.

My girls loved this!. My older daughter was super excited that her snack looked like a xylophone, but then didn’t really want to eat it. So, my younger daughter ended up eating most of this snack, and she loved it, especially the tiny grapes! My older daughter did eat the banana, after I cut it up into slices for her. As you can see, this is a very simple snack that you can use pretty much any fruit or veggie for.

And, if you are thinking about using this as a preschool snack, I’m sure you could make it prettier, or smaller or larger. It’s completely customizable.

X-ray Snack

On Friday I made an x-ray snack for my girls.

My older daughter doesn’t like eating the crust from her peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, so I got the idea for the frame of the x-ray from that. Then simply made the bones from an apple.

This is another snack that my older daughter thought was super cool but didn’t want to eat. My younger daughter enjoyed it, though.
