How To Make Jam; Quick and Easy Berry Chia Jam Recipe
In this article you will find a delicious Berry Chia Jam Recipe that even non-vegans will love! Honestly, they probably won’t even realize it’s not vegan! Learning how to make jam at home does not have to be difficult! First, I’ll answer some common questions about making jam at home, then we’ll get straight to the quick and easy recipe!

If you have a picky eater at home, like many people do, then a peanut butter and jelly sandwich is probably a go to lunch choice for them.

And there’s nothing bad about that; depending on how you make it, it could be void of most nutrients OR it could quite healthy.
There are basically three components of this type of sandwich;
- peanut butter (or some type of nut or seed butter)
- jelly or jam
- bread
The Peanut Butter
The first ingredient, peanut butter, is great! It’s full of protein and some vitamins and minerals, but you’ll mostly think about it for it’s contribution to your childs protein for the day.
Or use this homemade cashew butter.
The next ingredient, well how healthy the jam or jelly is depends on quite a bit…
The Jam
If you get the cheap store bought jam with all the sugar in it, then that won’t help with the health side of things. Fortunately, there are ways around using sugar filled jams and jellies, such as;
- pairing the peanut butter with banana slices
- using fresh berries in place of jam or jelly
- making homemade jam!
Then there’s the bread.
All bread is not made the same. White bread is going to be the worst, as far as health goes, even homemade white bread, made with all purpose flour, won’t be the best bet.
This is the kind of bread we like to get. But you’ll basically want to look for breads that say whole grain in the ingredient list, or ones with seeds that you can actually see on or in it are also fairly good bets!

How to Make Quick and Easy Berry Chia Jam Recipe
I’m going to warn you now…This recipe is extremely easy and only takes a few minutes to make!
First, you’ll want to get out a small blender (this is the blender I used for this recipe– I think I may have a blender problem, I currently have 4 different blenders, haha). Some woman have a shoe problem, I have a blender problem…
Then get out the ingredients;
- frozen mixed berries
- chia seeds
- maple syrup
- lemon juice
Yep, just 4 ingredients!
Add them to the blender and use the ‘auto IQ’ option, aka- blend for 45 seconds in 10-15 second intervals.
Then you’re done!
It may be a little liquid-y at first, that’s how my four year old likes it. If you’d like it to be thicker, place it in the fridge over night, it’ll thicken up by the next day.
Recipe Notes
Feel free to use any fruit in the place of the berries to make it more to your childs preference.
Keep in the fridge up to one week.
It’s not just for pb&j’s! You can use in any other recipe you use jam for, like jam muffins, on bagels, etc. Have fun with it!
