Simple Vegan Vanilla Icing

If you’re looking for a simple vegan vanilla icing recipe that’s going to work every time, then you’ve come to the right place!

I’ve been using the ratio below for more years than I feel comfortable to share (don’t make me age myself, lol). Let’s just say, ever since I became a mom and started making food at home, I’ve been making this easy icing for muffins, cookies, and more!

Ingredients for Vanilla Icing (Glaze Icing)

Simple Icing ingredients laid out on a wood cutting board.

Powdered Sugar: You need powdered sugar to make this icing, there is no substitute. If you don’t have powdered sugar, you can make your own by blending together 1 cup white granulated sugar with 1 tablespoon cornstarch in a high speed blender for about 1 minute, or until it looks and feels like powdered sugar.

Almond Milk: I prefer using vanilla almond milk for this recipe as almond milk has a white color to it (sometimes soy milk will have a pink tinge to it), and the extra vanilla helps bring out a sweeter flavor. Feel free to use your favorite non-dairy milk in it’s place.

Vanilla Extract: Vanilla extract can be omitted if you don’t have any, but it tastes of a more true vanilla flavor with the extract, rather than only the flavored non-dairy milk.

How to Make Vegan Icing

*Note that these instructions can be printed below

Step one: Stir together all ingredients.

Yep, that’s it, one step.

You can make it more than one step by customizing it to your desired consistency by adding more non-dairy milk to thin it and more powdered sugar to thicken it. But, that’s the gist of it.

How to Store Vegan Icing

Fridge: Store in an airtight container in the fridge up to 1 week. I like to store in an 8 ounce mason jar.
