9 Purple Colored Recipes

When you think about purple foods there’s probably a list of individual foods, or fruits & veggies that come to mind, such as: 

  • Red Grapes 
  • Elderberries 
  • Plums
  • Prunes
  • Raisins
  • Red cabbage
  • Eggplant
  • Purple carrots
  • Purple potatoes
  • Purple sweet potatoes
  • Beets
  • Purple cauliflower
  • Purple kale
  • Red onions
  • And so many more!

Sometimes these foods will turn a recipe purple and other times it’ll completely change color depending on what other foods it’s mixed with, especially when it comes to smoothies.

So, let me share some of my favorite naturally purple colored foods below.

Use these for a special occasion or when teaching kids about colors, for themed food nights, or to simply enjoy!

Blackberry Lemonade

Blackberry lemonade is naturally purple, and super simple to make. The only downside to it is the amount of sugar needed to make it not taste too tart.

 This smoothie is beautifully purple with hydrating coconut water and filled with antioxidants from the berries.

This is one of my kids favorite desserts (we even have it for breakfast sometimes and there's never any leftovers). It’s naturally sweetened with maple syrup and has a very purple inside, underneath the crumble.

Tips for Making Purple Colored Recipes

Making purple colored recipes, or finding them, isn’t all that hard!

Simply choose from the ones above OR use the list of purple foods above and search for recipes that include those foods. Then make a judgment call on whether or not the recipe is ‘purple’ enough for you.
